DescriptionThe Youth Worker will provide support to and assist in facilitation of outreach and connection programs for vulnerable children and youth in low-income neighborhoods of our community. Some of these programs will include: recreational (games and crafts), educational, (including life-skills, cooking, and empowerment programs), music classes, park programs and special events.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Execute age-appropriate activities and programs for youth participants by following provided program outlines/lesson plans
  • Plan, coordinate and facilitate games, sports and other creative projects to keep youth engaged
  • Supervise outdoor play and indoor program sessions ensuring a safe and secure environment
  • Provide mentorship, offering guidance and support to youth as a positive role model
  • Enforce safety protocols during all activities chaperone age appropriate field trips/outings
  • Keep record of program activities and attendance
  • Work closely with other summer youth workers and staff to ensure smooth program operations
  • Attend team meetings
  • Promote teamwork and collaboration among youth through group participation and activities
  • Foster a sense of community and inclusivity
  • General upkeep of program space, and supply inventory
  • Donation pick ups and sorting when required
Position is funded by Canada Summer Jobs Employment program.To be eligible, candidates must:
  • be between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period
  • be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment
  • have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
