(employee will be working with or have access to children or vulnerable adults and requires a Criminal Record Check)Required for Professional RegistrationJob DescriptionIn accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority, (Island Health) patient safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.Reporting to the Manager, Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC), the Practitioner works with physicians, medical microbiologists, nurses and various departments and services within Island Health, to provide surveillance and consultation related to infectious and communicable disease prevention and control in acute care, long-term care homes, and community settings. The role includes developing Infection Prevention and Control policies based on best practice literature, and implementing standards in compliance with local, provincial and federal legislation. The Practitioner develops and provides education on all aspects of Infection Prevention and Control.The position provides consultation to various departments, health care providers, physicians and surgeons, including participation on quality councils to report on issues that offer quality improvement opportunities. The Practitioner provides expert advice to facility planners related to the impact of construction and structural modifications on IPAC practices, and, following consultation with IPAC physicians, provides direction to staff regarding appropriate use of barrier precautions and other prevention and control principles to prevent further spread of infection during outbreaks. This position uses continuous quality improvement methodology and epidemiological principles in the assigned departments, programs, facilities and sites fulfilling functions of health service, education and research throughout Island Health. This program has 24-hour shared on-call responsibilities.QUALIFICATIONS:Education, Training And ExperienceRegistration with BC College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing RN registrant. Three years' recent related acute care clinical experience which includes one (1) years' demonstrated recent experience working directly with infection control processes, policies, activities, including the facilitation of work teams, projects, and quality improvement initiatives. Completion of an approved IPAC Canada sponsored or endorsed Infection Control course, or evidence of Certification in Infection Control (CIC).Knowledge of the interrelationships between Acute, Long-Term Care, Community Health and Public Health Resources in the health delivery system.Strong working knowledge of program development and implementation and performance measures.Valid Class 5 vehicle license.Skills And Abilities
