Our private ownership provides long-term business planning and strategic decision horizons supported by a strong financial position.Job DescriptionWe are currently seeking a qualified Field Specialist to join our infrastructure team, based out of Toronto, ON. The Field Specialist will be responsible for responsible for monitoring the technical requirements of the work and verifying quantities. Performs construction engineering assignments of a varied nature requiring a full working knowledge of construction engineering practices. Exercises professional judgment within the framework of broad guidelines provided by superiors. May have responsibility to provide direction to less experienced field specialists, or construction office technical or clerical personnel and have the opportunity to work with the Delivery Partner integrated team, for the Ontario Line Subway (OLS) Project. The project scope includes the design build, operations and maintenance of all infrastructure and rail systems associated with 15 stations and over 15km of new alignment.Join in this full time permanent role and be a champion ofDuties & Responsibilities:
  • Monitors the activities of contractors to ensure compliance with project technical requirements.
  • Ensure that safety and creation as well as maintenance of a safe workplace and environment is the primary consideration and first priority in the delivery of all work.
  • Reviews contractor's documentation including but not limited to request for information (RFI) and submittals such as risk assessments, method statements and inspection and test plans. Attends necessary inspections of the works on behalf of Metrolinx.
  • Monitor's the contractor's assurance activities including the resolution of non-conforming items.
  • Assists construction superintendents and contractors in planning construction methods and procedures. Coordinates and resolves engineering or construction problems with superintendents and contractors.
  • Interprets design engineering drawings and may prepare construction working drawings for the use of superintendents and contractors as required, including (1) Temporary construction facilities, (2) Field sketches of revisions and additions and preparing “as built” drawings.
  • Reviews design drawings, related vendor and contractor drawings and installation instructions and studies interference problems.
  • Verifies contractor's commodities on quantity tracking systems or other computer database programs as required.
  • Reviews field change notices/requests, extra work orders and back charge notices.
  • Implements project controls tools on the construction site.
  • Assists in the preparation of cost estimates and reviews project design and engineering bills of materials to ensure their completeness.
  • Prepares and maintains daily reports.
  • Assists in the verification of contractor's applications for payment.
  • Reviews updated contractor schedules, as assigned.
  • Provides input to constructability and lessons learned.
  • May be required to provide input on employee reviews of assigned subordinate personnel.
  • Work assigned shifts including days and/or nights, or on a rotating shift as needed.
Qualifications
  • Knowledge of a single technical engineering discipline, contracts administration and/or cost and scheduling relating to the construction of infrastructure projects.
  • Computer literate in word processing, spreadsheet and database.
  • Awareness of environmental compliance laws and requirements.
  • Knowledge of “Zero Accident” safety program.
  • Familiarity with current industry quality standards.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university as well as a minimum of 5 to 7 years relevant experience.
  • Work experience as a field engineer, project coordinator or assistant superintendent.
  • Experience working in the rail industry and/or large-scale infrastructure.
