Application Deadline 05/15/2024Position SummaryReporting to the Supervisor, Water and Wastewater, you will be responsible for the maintenance and operations of Water and Wastewater infrastructure.Key Duties and ResponsibilitiesWater Quality SamplingWastewater and Storm Effluent SamplingMaintenance and repair to water, wastewater, and storm infrastructureConfined space entryRespond and investigate sewer backups and storm floodingVisual inspection of sanitary, storm manhole and valve chambersRestoration Activities; sodding, concrete, interlock, and asphalt placementTraffic control and signage set upSanitary sewer flushingSupervise contractor during infrastructure repairsInteracting with EMS, YRPH, MOL, Council and the publicWatermain flushingFire Flow testingPerform utility (water, wastewater, storm) locatesHydrant meter service and installationCustomer Service water off/on, water quality complaintsPerform regulatory sampling for lead, THM's, Nitrates and Chlorine residualUV system inspectionPerform inspection of PRV, drain and air valvesCamera inspections of wastewater and storm infrastructureInspection and maintenance of lift stationsCross connection investigation and remediationProvide spills response and cleanup; interact with MOECC and SACOperate heavy equipment (e.g., dump truck, loader, flusher, backhoe, compressor, etc.)Associated responsibilities include:Small work crews oversightMaintain and complete legible recordsInvestigate and assist with follow-ups to enquiries from the publicAll duties must be performed in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Safe Drinking Water Act and associated Regulations, City policies, procedures and practicesAvailable for standby and shift workOther duties as assignedEducation and ExperienceHigh school diploma or equivalentWater Distribution Subsystem Class 2 and Wastewater Collection Class 2 in good standing is requiredMay consider OIT Certification, Water Distribution Subsystem Class 1 and Wastewater Collection Class 1First Aid CPR and AED training is an assetSpills Response Training is an assetRiggers Licence is an assetTrench Training is an assetPropane Training is an assetBook 7 Training is an asset4 years prior experience including 2 years as an Operator IIRequired Skills/KnowledgeSuccessful completion of the Walkerton Clean Water Centre (WCWC) Entry-Level Course for Drinking Water OperatorsOntario Class "G" driver license in good standing and must provide a current satisfactory Ontario driver's abstract from the M.T.O.Ability to obtain an Ontario Class "DZ" driver license within 6 months of the date of hire at the expense of the successful applicantDemonstrated experience in water distribution, wastewater collection systems and sanitary pump station maintenanceDemonstrates the City's corporate values of care, collaboration, courage, and serviceDemonstrated ability to prepare and keep records and read and interpret engineering drawingsGeneral knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Safe Drinking Water Act, and sewer use by-lawsPhysically able and competent to perform the physical demands of this position under adverse weather and site conditions, including confined space entryAbility to work overtime and meet the mandatory requirements of “standby” in accordance with the provisions of the C.U.P.E.
