Each of our ingredients responds to unique and essential needs, and they enable healthier lifestyles.Reporting to the Acting Deputy Chief Engineer, this position is responsible for carrying out Class 2 Power Engineer responsibilities and assisting the Chief Engineer on the following maintenance systems: steam, refrigeration, compressed air, plant water, domestic water, fire suppression and natural gas.The individual in this position must be fully capable of operating all boiler/refrigeration equipment, support systems, and capable of performing mechanical repairs in all areas of their responsibility.Key Accountabilities
  • Assist the Acting Deputy Chief by providing full support to production by cooperating with the manufacturing Shift Supervisors, Process Engineers, Head of functions, and within the maintenance team to help reach production targets.
  • Operate in the capacity of the Acting Deputy Chief (supervisor role) when he/she is away (vacation or sick) by carrying out supervisory responsibilities on their behalf (lead team shift huddles, scheduling, work assessments, attend meetings, etc.)
  • Responsible to act in the absence of utility operators for the operation, maintenance & control of high-pressure boilers, and ancillary equipment by adjusting ones shift as needed to ensure adequate support/coverage.
  • Required to fully understand the purpose and operation of the Boiler/Refrigeration/potable water production/wastewater monitoring system and have the ability to make decisions based on sound judgment when a situation dictates.
  • Accountable for troubleshooting boiler failures/water production/wastewater compliance, determining work requirements and proper reporting of deficiencies.
  • Ensures safe and efficient operation of the boiler/refrigeration systems in full cooperation with all powerhouse and other maintenance personnel.
  • Assist with team supervision (when Acting Deputy Chief is absent) and operation of the maintenance & control of Chiller equipment – Refrigerated Glycol.
  • Assist with team supervision (when Acting Deputy Chief is absent) and operation of the maintenance & control of low- and high-pressure steam systems, environmental control equipment, potable water production, and wastewater monitoring.
  • Assist with team supervision (when Acting Deputy Chief is absent) and operation of the maintenance & control of equipment to support various production units including turbines, pumps, compressors, turbo-alternators, cooling towers, water treatment systems, gas systems.
  • Accountable for timely and complete investigations, remedying safety concerns, educating employee on hazards and risk mitigation within area of responsibilities.
  • Conducts inspection on the fire sprinkler system as required.
  • Maintain accurate logs of all monitored equipment.
  • Participate in the issuance of Confined Space Entry Permits
  • Performs assigned responsibilities during plant evacuations due to fire and gas.
  • Responsible to take action / adjust variables to meet quality and productivity standards
  • Promptly identifying and address unsafe conditions.
  • Assist in the development of energy control procedures and safe work practices.
  • Ensure compliance with all HACCP procedures – Food grade water, steam and refrigerated fluid in chiller.
  • Maintains work area in a clean and functional condition.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the chief engineer.

Technical Competencies

  • Use written logbooks and has strong computer skills (Microsoft Office / SAP / Work Orders)
  • Read and interpret written instructions, manufacturers’ manuals, material safety data sheets, and engineering drawings.
Education
  • Must hold a valid Class 2 Power Engineer license
Experience
  • 5 – 7 years’ experience working in an industrial manufacturing environment.
  • Experience in operating large Utilities facilities (power distribution, steam generation, vacuum systems, compressed air systems, water distribution systems)
  • In depth knowledge and experience with equipment troubleshooting is required
  • Control room experience – monitor complex processes and coordinate critical activities
  • Maintenance experience – prioritize assets maintenance to ensure plant reliability
Specific Requirements
  • Must be available for shift work as needed.
  • Provide off-shift support to the Utilities Supervisor (Acting Chief Engineer) based on production and maintenance needs
  • Must be able to work under extreme conditions, such as hot, wet and cold environments (inside and outside of the Plant).
  • Must be able to climb stairs, ladders, catwalks and able to work at heights and inside confined spaces
  • Must be able to use personal protective equipment, such as respirators, SCBA, and safety harness
