Role: Work with Camp Coordinator to plan and implement a summer camp that offers new adventures and opportunities for families in the Hillside-Quadra area. We service a large variety of families, including families with Indigenous backgrounds and a wide diversity of cultures. We strive to make an inclusive experience for all camp members and aim to bring activities that are appropriate and suitable for all folks of ranging abilities and stages of development.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Providing support and supervision of all children in our camp and meeting the needs for their developmental level and range of abilities. This is done through child centered practice to ensure equitable care for all children in our program
  • Provide children with opportunities to participate in activities such as games, arts, crafts, sports, tours & field trips to local sites, beaches & parks
  • Assist the Camp Coordinator to plan & implement the preparation of healthy snacks
  • Assist the Camp Coordinator to track daily attendance
  • Assist in the facilitation of positive role modeling, boundary setting, and crisis management
  • Ensure the program spaces are suitable, clean and safe for the operation of the summer camp program
  • Transport children to and from activities as appropriate
  • Assist the Camp Coordinator to evaluate the camp program
  • Assist in the day-to-day operations of the Quadra Village Community Centre.
  • Be familiar with and implement Quadra Village Community Centre (Downtown Blanshard Advisory Committee's) policies, procedures, and practices
  • Perform other related duties when required and approved by the Child & Family Programs Coordinator, or Executive Director
Qualifications:
  • Experience and education directly related to summer camp, school aged childcare, recreation, child and youth development, developmentally appropriate activities, behavior management, group facilitation, program delivery or health and nutrition.
  • Clear Criminal Record Check
  • First Aid and CPR
  • Food Safe (not necessary, but an asset)
  • Class 4 Driver's License (not necessary, but an asset)
  • Must be eligible for Canada Summer Jobs Program To be eligible, youth must:
  • be between 15 and 30 years of age
  • be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment
  • have a valid Social Insurance Number and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulation
Experience and Education:
Experience and education directly related to summer camp, school aged childcare, recreation, child and youth development, developmentally appropriate activities, behavior management, group facilitation, program delivery or health and nutrition.Hours of Work:
  • 35-40 hours Monday to Friday from July 2nd through to August 30th, 2024
  • Additional training hours could occur prior to the start of camp
  • Closed on Statutory Holidays
Salary and Benefits:
  • $19.00/hour plus 6% holiday pay
  • Eligible for the Employee & Family Assistance Program
