Full Time Driver/Maintenance Worker (union position)

- Assist with supervision of community service-ordered workers and/or maintenance volunteers.
- Maintain exterior grounds by ensuring parking lot and sidewalks are cleared of snow, grass is cut along fence line and overall cleanliness of the property.
- Maintain/clean exterior of the building as required.
- Help facilitate parking cars for special occasions.
- Maintain interior of building by:
- Do minor repairs to plumbing and electrical systems.
- Replacement of light bulbs.
- Do minor repairs to furniture and equipment.
- Do minor building repairs, painting, and other maintenance duties as designated.
- Maintain mechanical systems.
- Help move furniture and equipment if required; and
- Maintain maintenance tools, equipment, and the Maintenance area in a clean hazard free manner.
- Maintain Booth Centre vehicle in good operating order.
- Maintain cleanliness of vehicle.
- Drive Booth Centre vehicle for picking-up donations and other designated supplies and/or making deliveries on behalf of the Booth Centre.
- Demonstrate knowledge of the Center's Policies and Procedure manual and make suggestions to improve it.
- Model appropriate qualities for this position i.e., self-motivation, punctuality, and personal hygiene.
- Commit to and sign the Center's confidentiality form.
- Attend staff meetings, workshops and conferences as authorized by the Centre.
- Work within mandate and mission of the Salvation Army.
- Represent The Salvation Army in a professional manner.
- May work with potentially aggressive clients.
- A diploma/certificate in the field of building maintenance is preferred and/or a combination of education and life-related experiences.
- Valid Ontario Class “G” Driver's License and a current copy of a Driver's abstract for review and verification that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required.
- Possess a current First Aid and CPR, non-violent Crisis Intervention and WHIMIS certificate.
- Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.
- Possess a mechanical aptitude.
- Possess excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrate the ability to work both independently and under supervision.
- Ability to lift/carry loads up to forty pounds.
- Manage time wisely.
- Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector screening.
- Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
