Medical Laboratory Technologist, Transfusion Medicine Shift ResponsibilityProvincial Laboratory Medicine ServicesVancouver, BCWhat you’ll do
  • Perform analytical procedures according to established protocols that may include crossmatch, serological testing and blood product component manipulation. Perform procedures by operating a variety of laboratory equipment, apparatus and instrumentation.
  • Respond to requests and inquiries for transfusion services and testing. Seek direction as required from the Section Supervisor, Assistant Head Technologist, Head Technologist or Hematopathologist on call as appropriate.
  • Maintain and document maintenance of laboratory equipment. Recognize and report malfunctions in equipment. Document and report day to day work problems to Section Supervisor. Monitor test and quality control results, and notify senior personnel of abnormalities; participate in monitoring of existing guidelines where appropriate to ensure quality is maintained.
  • Perform a variety of Quality Assurance procedures; respond to customer service expectations and queries, and refer questions to senior personnel where appropriate; perform routine maintenance on equipment following established schedules; notify the Section Supervisor, or designate, in the event of major problems; participate in laboratory safety in the assigned area.
  • Provide input in the development and maintenance of standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the analytical section including making recommendations for changes.
  • Demonstrate routine laboratory procedures to students and technologists.
  • Participate in monitoring of laboratory supplies.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
What you bringQualifications
  • Graduation from a recognized program in Medical Laboratory Technology.
  • Two (2) years of recent, related experience as a Registered Technologist (RT) in Transfusion Medicine procedures or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Current registration with the Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS).

  • Knowledge of social, economic, political and historical realities impacting indigenous communities and familiarity with Indigenous Cultural Safety and anti-racism and accompanying reports (BC DRIPA, TRC, etc.).
