Proof of vaccination status will be required.SummaryReporting to the Patient Care Manager, the Diagnostic Vascular Technologist performs and assesses non-invasive diagnostic tests on the vascular system utilizing duplex ultrasound, continuous wave Doppler and/or plethysmography equipment. The position receives and prepares patients for testing, evaluates accuracy of diagnoses, performs quality control duties, and participates in inter-disciplinary team meetings and local committees. The Diagnostic Vascular Technologist enters procedure data into the computerized system, and provides instruction regarding procedures, equipment and techniques to staff trainees, student technologists and other staff as required.Qualifications / Skills and EducationEducation
Graduation from a recognized program in Diagnostic Medical Sonography. Plus one year recent related experience. Current certification with Canadian Association of Registered Diagnostic Ultrasound Professionals (CARDUP) for the assigned practice area (i.e.vascular), and/or current certification with the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) for the assigned area (i.e. vascular).Skills and Abilities

Current knowledge of vascular ultrasound procedures and technologies. Ability to provide instruction.Duties and ResponsibilitiesReceives and prepares patients for testing by methods such as receiving requisitions from physicians, reviewing patients’ case history, correlating clinical history with examination to be performed, assessing the nature of the issue to determine a process for testing, explaining procedures to patients, and monitoring patients comfort level to ensure patient is at ease while obtaining required results.Performs non-invasive diagnostic tests on the vascular system by methods such as positioning patient, performance of resting and exercise ankle-brachial indexes, toe-brachial indexes, reactive hyperemic tests, venous Doppler, venous plethysmography, thoracic outlet testing and cold reactivity testing operating continuous wave Doppler and/or plethysmography equipment. Assesses test results, records findings, submits results and summary to physicians for review, and reporting and authorization.Evaluates accuracy of diagnoses by methods such as performing correlation exercises, discussing procedures with medical and technical personnel, and making recommendations for approved refinements to techniques as appropriate.Responds to requests for information and/or assistance from the medical community by seeking guidance from Medical Director and/or Technical Leader, Ultrasound, and relaying or discussing data/information with personnel such as the relative merits of various tests.Performs quality control duties by scheduling and performing equipment tests in accordance with recommended manufacturer’s guidelines, recording results, and identifying malfunctioning equipment. Requisitions equipment repair as required.Participates in multi-disciplinary team meetings and local committees by attending meetings, collaborating with multi-disciplinary personnel, providing input on issues related to the discipline, and making recommendations as required.Inputs, updates and annotates patient and procedural data by entering patient ID, supplies utilized and sequence and procedures performed into the computerized system.Maintains a broad knowledge of developments in vascular technology by reviewing literature, and participating in professional development activities, workshops and courses.Provides instruction regarding procedures, equipment and techniques to staff trainees, student technologists, and other staff as required.Performs other related duties as assigned.
