Registered Veterinary TechnologistDepartment: Dentistry and Oral SurgeryLocation: Calgary, ABPosition DetailsOur Dentistry and Oral Surgery department is welcoming an experienced Registered Veterinary Technologist or an out of province Registered Veterinary Technician to join the Dentistry & Oral Surgery Service at the CARE Centre. The successful candidate will be an integral part of delivering gold-standard specialist care to our patients, clients and referring doctors. This role will work directly with and supporting Dr. Campbell, Board Certified Specialist in Dentistry & Oral Surgery.Dr. Campbell and team serve as the major centre for oral and maxillofacial trauma in southern Alberta and frequently interface with the Critical Care and Emergency Service to provide patients with the best care possible. Offering specialist referral dentistry to patients, including routine exodontics, complex exodontics, endodontics and orthodontics. Our dentist and oral surgery department serve as the major referral hub for oral and maxillofacial surgical oncology in the province, this team will work closely with the Oncology Team to provide comprehensive care to cancer patients. Additional conditions we treat include salivary gland disease, oral medicine, perform advanced imaging in the head and neck, among others. It’s never a dull day, and we don’t just clean teeth! Key responsibilities include:General anesthesia delivery and/or monitoring (CRI) will be a key responsibility of the position, along with performing advanced technical skills; please note, Anesthesia support will be provided by a full-time anesthesiologist.Experience with small animal veterinary ventilators an asset.Patient treatments process procedures; Starting client appointments, collection and running or submitting of blood samples and other duties as per appointment or doctor requestMaintaining timely and accurate patient recordsFamiliarity with taking dental radiographs, dental charting and performing dental hygiene procedures is an asset but not requiredGeneral pre/post operative assistanceGeneral housekeepingStudent Training; offering practicum support for students (helping grow techs for our hospital and industry)Attending career fairs when requestedQualificationsCompleted an accredited veterinary program; Veterinary Technology Diploma, Veterinary Technician Diploma or Animal Health Technology Diploma.VTNE completion or eligibleIdeally 2 years experience within a dentistry department or general practice with supporting dental proceduresEligible for registration with AAAHT in Alberta.Excellent interpersonal skills to work within many teams at the hospital. You understand that it takes all of us; client care, tech assistants, RVT's, specialists among other roles to support our patients and each other during each shift.Adaptability, you understand that you will be required to recognize and adapt to a situation, appointment and/or procedure when supporting our specialist and other teams when situations call for tact, calmness and empathy.Excellent verbal and written communication skillsSchedule:4 days on and 4 days off! Great schedule that offers work life balance.
