Our 6,000 faculty and staff foster a vibrant, purpose-driven community, that celebrated 200 years of academic excellence in 2018.Job SummaryDalhousie University School of Social Work’s ( SSW ) faculty, students, and alumni share a common objective: to embrace a critical and anti-oppressive approach to social work practice that includes an emphasis on social policy, professional values, theoretical perspectives, and practice methods. The SSW offers both the Bachelor of Social Work ( BSW ) and Master of Social Work ( MSW ) degree programs. Reporting to the Director, SSW , and working in conjunction with other Field Education Coordinators, the Field Education Coordinator is responsible for managing the delivery of the BSW and MSW SSW field practicum, both campus-based and online through distance delivery across Canada and internationally.Key ResponsibilitiesDevelop and implement the field placement process to ensure adherence to standards set by the SSW , the Faculty of Health and the Canadian Association of Social Work Education ( CASWE ).Manage the delivery of field courses, including identifying and developing new agency field placements, local, national, or international, and matching students to placements which meet the students’ learning objectives. Ensure affiliation agreements are executed with every placement agency.Regularly liaise with students and field agency instructors to provide advice, consultation and support on learning objectives, placement opportunities, as well as issues that may arise during placements. Work in conjunction with students and the Accessibility Office to ensure appropriate accommodations are made during placements.Organize information meetings and presentations on field placement requirements and processes. Provide guidance and training to agency instructors, including organizing orientation and educational events.Contribute to updating and refreshing the BSW and MSW field work manuals for use by campus and distance students, agency field instructors and faculty.Develop tools for evaluating the field education component. Coordinate and review content for the delivery of integrative seminars for all students, making recommendations for changes to the BSW / MSW program committees as appropriate.NoteThe successful applicant will be eligible for hybrid work (combination of in-person work on campus and remote work) as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements and university guidelines.Required QualificationsMaster of Social Work and registration with the Nova Scotia College of Social Workers ( NSCSW ) with 5 years’ related experience in social work practice and administration (or equivalent combination of training and experience).Knowledge of the organizational structures, policies and procedures of the social service and health delivery systems and community organizations in Canada.Proven ability to communicate effectively at all organizational levels, from senior management in government, non government and community based organizations to direct service providers and to students.Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive issues with confidentiality and tact.Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access).
