Under the supervision of the Director of Contract and Purchasing Services, which is comprised of two streams: purchasing services and contract management (fee for service, consultant, grants and continuing service agreements), the incumbent is responsible for providing purchasing services for the department of Justice, through a variety of purchasing activities that include; operational, non-operational purchases of goods and services, material research and recommendation, cost analysis, guidance on purchasing planning based on department needs in relation to government goals and objectives; and the co-ordination and renewal of annual purchase orders and monitoring of departmental outline agreements (contracts) for goods and services. The position works directly with the Director, Purchasing Coordinators, Program Coordinators of special programs and services and various Corporate & Strategic Services staff and is responsible for providing purchasing advice, guidance, direction and assistance through the analysis and interpretation of government-wide and department policy and procedures, on a branch, divisional or departmental level to approximately 256 purchasing roles. The position is also responsible for trouble-shooting, delivering SAP, purchasing and procedural training and designing new training modules and materials for the department's purchasing staff.
