It fuels our innovation and connects us closer to the community we serve.As an Arena Attendant I, you will provide customer service in a welcoming and safe recreation environment to the patrons of the arena and the public. You will work with a team to maintain all aspects of the Nicola Valley Memorial Arena, including the ice and building. Your duties will include but are not limited to welcoming patrons, user groups and the public, sharpening skates, handling cash, and providing services, while also monitoring for compliance with arena rules and regulations.Arena Attendants maintain the arena with pride and ensure the highest level of cleanliness, carrying out all cleaning duties as required including cleaning glass, dust, clean and disinfecting all surfaces including but not limited to concession areas, washrooms and changerooms, and clearing snow from the building, as well as removing debris and refuse. In this role, you will also make, monitor, and maintain ice surfaces and carry out ice and floor maintenance for a variety of floor surfaces including but not limited to washing and waxing of floors. You will also perform inspections of related buildings, equipment and machinery and perform minor repairs and maintenance and handyperson work. With the supervision and direction of the Operations Manager, you will also record readings in the ammonia plant and initiate established safety procedures as required.The ideal candidate works comfortably within a team, demonstrates patience and a friendly approach, is able to work within specific guidelines and adhere to policies, procedures and standards and works in a systematic and precise manner with the persistence to see a job through to conclusion.Refrigeration Safety Awareness Certificate of QualificationCertification in Occupational First Aid (OFA) Level 1 or higher.Ice Facility Operator Certificate is preferredAdditional training and/or experience in and ice maintenance, Zamboni and/ or Manlift/ Scissor Lift operation, Building Service Worker certification, Arena Ice Maker’s Certificate are assets but not necessary.Membership in Recreation Facilities Association of BC (RFABC) and BC Recreation and Parks Association (BCRPA) or eligible for membership.Working knowledge of and compliance with safe work practices and health and safety standards including ammonia safety.Excellent communication skills when dealing with the public and in a team environment.Ability to work cooperatively and amicably in a team environment with a safety-first attitude.Ability to communicate effectively, when dealing with the public and co-workers.Ability to execute tasks efficiently, resolve issues with good judgement, report on issues as required.Ability to execute tasks efficiently, resolve issues with good judgement, report back on issues and outcomes.Physical ability to carry out the duties of the job including frequent lifting and carrying of heavy objects, bending, kneeling, emptying and transporting garbage and recycling, and shoveling snow.New hires and those working in designated positions of trust, including those working directly with vulnerable persons, will be required to provide a satisfactory Police Information Check as a condition of employment.This position is within the union bargaining unit with a pay rate of $29.93 per hour (2024 CUPE rate).
