We are looking to for an On-Call Education Assistant to support students at the Okanagan Indian Band Cultural Immersion School, nkmaplqs i snmamayatn kl sqilxwtet.If you enjoy working with children one on one or in a small group within a classroom setting and supporting them in education, this position is for you!The Education Assistant is to support the Classroom Teacher with students who require extra support, students with high needs. The Education Assistant will provide a solid and safe foundation which fosters the student’s physical, intellectual, emotional, social, and cultural development.What We OfferThe OKIB offers a welcoming team environment and a rewarding job experience as you join us in providing services to the Okanagan Indian Band.SUPPORTS NEEDEDAssist Teachers with organization of material and lesson preparationAssist Teachers with small group instruction under the direction of the classroom TeacherProvide one to one support for students in literacy and mathAssist Teachers in identifying ways to help and support student learning outcomesFollow and provide input into Individual Education Plans and SMART Goals while continually assessing student progress and recommending adjustments to ensure IEP goal are metAssist in managing classroom expectations through positive reinforcementBe a positive role model for behaviour; practice respectful student/adult interactionsSupervise outside play at recess and lunch, while on fieldtrips, and assist in other supervision duties as requiredManage incidents involving students to ensure children have a safe and secure environmentDevelop and maintain a good working relationship with parentsAll persons employed by the Okanagan Indian Band may be required to assist the Band in providing emergency services.Duties assigned during an emergency may differ from regular dutiesParticipate in staff language classesAssist in the delivery of language to studentsQualificationsPerform other duties as requiredEducationGrade 12 diplomaCertified Education Assistant is preferredCurrent First Aid/CPR certificateTwo Years Of Experience As Education Assistant Is PreferredExperience working with elementary aged students and their parentsExperience working with First Nations communitiesPreference may be given to those having knowledge of the Okanagan culture and traditions
