Engineering Technician II

Position Details

Transportation and Infrastructure - Government of Newfoundland and Labrador

The incumbent performs inspection work on small to moderate construction projects to ensure adherence to prescribed specification and safety standards; prepares and drafts designs, plans, and specifications for highway and bridge construction projects using AutoCAD Civil 3D, Microsoft Office Software; provides contractors with engineering data regarding highway/bridge alignment and grade; checks construction materials for quality and quantity; assigns and supervises the work of survey crews on highway, bridge, and airstrip construction and upgrading/rehabilitation projects; provides technical assistance and reviews survey data for completeness and accuracy; and performs other related work as required. Work is performed with considerable independence and must conform to departmental and engineering standards.

Screening Criteria

• Experience in Civil engineering construction methods, equipment, materials and practices.
• Experience in fieldwork (inspection/ control of construction projects).
• Supervisory experience.
• Experience with design, spreadsheet and office software such as AutoCAD Civil 3D, Word and Excel.
• Completion of a Diploma in Engineering Technology (Civil or Surveying). Equivalencies will be considered.

Assessment Criteria

• Knowledge of Civil engineering construction methods, equipment, materials and practices.

• Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety regulations and safe work practices.
• Knowledge of design, spreadsheet and office software such as AutoCAD Civil 3D, Word and Excel.

• Ability to lead others.
• Relationship building.
