How You Will Make an Impact

The successful candidate will extend our mission to community-based clients through the provision of respectful and responsive access to healthcare services via the Shelter Health Network. This may include referral and follow-up management, referrals to appropriate services, and general administrative duties related to the needs of the clients, practitioners, and co-workers. The incumbent must be able to work independently in a challenging and rewarding values-based environment.

  • Manage communication (telephone, email, fax) with other health care providers, pharmacies, community physicians, diagnostic facilities, hospitals and Good Shepherd program staff
  • Maintain database and hard copy information on all clinic users
  • Assist with OHIP billings for physicians, as needed
  • Manage referrals to specialists, as requested by the health care providers
  • Maintaining adequate medical and office supplies for the facility in addition to maintenance and IT requests as required
  • Maintain confidentiality with regards to clients/staff and Centre's records
  • Responsible for participating in Good Shepherd's Health and Safety programs, procedures, procedures and work in compliance with the provisions of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and its regulations to minimize risk to clients, staff and others as well as to the property of the Good Shepherd

What You'll Bring to Our Team

  • Completion of a Medical Office Administration or related program and 3 years experience with experience in medical terminology and abbreviations
  • Proven ability and experience in interacting with health care professionals and advanced understanding of the Hamilton health care system
  • Experience in registration, documentation, and scheduling in a medical environment
  • Proven ability in working with patients who experience barriers to accessing health care
  • Advanced skills in database entry and management and in statistical collection. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in OSCAR software applications.
  • Fluency in a 2nd language is an asset
  • CPR certification or willingness to be certified is required
  • Valid G license required
  • Excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills
