Overview:


The Lafarge Marine Division provides tug and barge services to internal and external customers in the Greater Vancouver Area. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Marine; the primary objectives of this role are to achieve efficiencies of operations and other critical revenue objectives for the market area while ensuring our offering promotes safety, service and value for our customers.



Position Summary:
The Marine Operations Coordinator, under the guidance of the Senior Manager, undertakes various responsibilities. The coordinator will support the Marine Operations team in maximizing profitability by assisting in the optimization of daily marine operations. Including, but not limited to: understanding customer requirements, enhancing key customer relationships. In addition, this role ensures reconciliation and crewing processes are undertaken to allow informed decision making by stakeholders.



This role requires on-call duties on a weekly rotational basis to ensure peak operational performance.




Key Responsibilities:




Health & Safety:


Demonstrates a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to safety policies in all work environment areas.
Maintains documentation on safety drills, exercises, tool box talks and training for Lafarge and Transport Canada reporting requirements.
Maintain membership on the Joint Health and Safety Committee.
Reviews weekly toolbox talks and drill procedures


Operations:


Support the Marine Scheduler in creating a live day to day Marine operations and work schedule to optimize costs, asset utilization and customer needs.
Control daily operating costs and review and analyze monthly revenue and expenses.
Coordinate assists and shifts through external suppliers and maintain accurate records for cost management purposes. Review shift, assist, rental invoices for accuracy.
Support the Marine Dispatch in providing written orders to crews.
Work with the Maintenance group to schedule equipment maintenance in an efficient and cost effective manner.
Support daily administration functions including payroll, monitoring lay day dispositions, AR/AP.
Maintain and analyze KPI information to drive operational efficiency. Review tug log reports and enter information into KPI and operations tracking tools.
Complete Customs declarations.
Support in the execution of Lafarge Marine’s preventative maintenance program is in place that tracks and monitors operating hours.
Raises, maintains and closes out work orders
Support the Senior Manager in project management approaches to initiate, plan, execute, manage and close capital projects.
Undertakes purchasing of materials and services for maintenance and operational requirements


Personnel:


Support planning of crew schedules to meet operational and unionized constraints
Supports maintenance of certification records for all personnel.
Facilitates the processing of HR documentation for all Marine hourly employees.
Review overtime submissions and provide advice to management on trends or issues.
Support the Dispatch Coordinator and crews on HR processes.


Accountabilities:

Cost management and reconciliation of assists, shifts, rentals
KPI accuracy and timeliness


Dimensions:


Relationships: Works closely with the Senior Marine Manager, Marine Scheduler, Marine Dispatch, and Marine Maintenance Manager and all Lafarge GVA divisions for material delivery.
Relationships: Works closely with Cement, Ready Mix and Aggregate divisions for berth maintenance and providing technical support for Marine facilities. Must maintain strong working relationship with the Aggregate Plant Managers, Aggregate Depot Manager and the BC Heavy Mobile Equipment Manager to ensure resources are effectively managed and to develop and roll-out maintenance best practices. Works closely with industry maintenance facilities and contractors for both operational and deep maintenance activities. Works with government agencies to ensure legal compliance.
Two Class II voyage tugs, one Class III, 11 flat deck barges, 1 auto offloading barge, depot and barge conveyors, four ramp berths, four deport berths, marine division workshop facilities.





Salary: $70,000.00 to $75,000.00 per annum



Qualification Profile:


Post-Secondary diploma/degree in a related field (Business, Logistics, Nautical Sciences) or the equivalent of education and experience.


Education and Work Experience:


Minimum of 1 –2 years of Marine/Aggregate logistics.
Ability to work in a fast-paced and sometimes stressful environment. Good attention to detail.
Proven problem solving and analytical skills in a high paced environment.
Self-motivated, strong team player.
Proficiency with computer applications (Microsoft, Google business suite)
Knowledgeable about land and marine based operations. Aggregate production and barge loading / offloading knowledge is helpful, but not required
Understanding of Class Certification for all vessels under Canada Shipping Act 2001, Lloyds Register, and ABS
Ability to participate in weekend call out rotating Saturday and Sundays
Ability to take phone calls after hours
