Reactor Decommissioning (RD) is responsible for all Storage with Surveillance (SWS) and decommissioning activities of the "Off-Site" prototype reactors. Reactor Segmentation (RS) is responsible for the planning and execution of all activities related to the characterization, segmentation, and packaging of all of the reactor Calandria/cores which are managed by Canadian Nuclear Laboratories (CNL) on behalf of Atomic Energy of Canada Limited (AECL).

Work areas include Chalk River Laboratories (CRL), Douglas Point (DP), and Gentilly 1 (G-1).

The Planner for RD is accountable to the Manager of RS and has primary duties to ensure that documents, methods, procedures, and practices are executed in compliance with company and regulatory procedures. In particular, the Planner will ensure that their actions, documents, methods, and plans address health, safety, security, environmental, and quality requirements for RD activities.

  • The role will be based in the CRL working area, but travel to and from remote sites will be required. *

What will you be doing!

  • Identifies and recommends improvements to any CNL-wide procedures that affects own work area.
  • Collaborates with others in the development of procedural improvements utilizing innovative approaches.
  • Supports and may participate in innovation initiatives.
  • Responds to situations to contain/mitigate short-term risk in accordance with established procedures.
  • Escalates issues outside of guidelines and processes.
  • Ensuring the safety and compliance of people on the site.
  • Complying with safety and quality assurance standards and troubleshooting when issues arise.
  • Preparing and addressing comments on documents in support of activities for CNL D&ER
  • Prioritizing tasks and deliverables according to defined timelines.
  • Leading or assisting in preparation of detailed work plans for RD field work. Following and leading the Integrated Work Control Process (IWCP)
  • Preparing technical reports and researching tools, equipment, and techniques used in D&ER
  • Assisting in the preparation of Scopes of Work and bid evaluations.
  • Working with trades, project staff, radiation protection, operations, and other support groups to resolve problems and issues related to planning and scheduling of the RD and CNL D&ER programs.
  • Other duties as assigned by Management.

What we are looking for :

Graduation from an institute of technology with a minimum of five years progressively responsible experience during which time the incumbent should have demonstrated the ability to assume responsibility as described above;

OR

Successful completion of Secondary School and a minimum of five (5) years pertinent experience plus three (3) years' demonstrated experience in a leadership position which time the incumbent should have demonstrated the technical ability to assume responsibilities as described above.

  • Experience in a nuclear operational or decommissioning environment.
  • Understanding of the ICWP (integrated work control process).
  • Good research and writing skills. Must be able to gather, analyse, and assemble a variety of technical information and translate the information into work execution steps.
  • Capable of interpreting complex drawings and specifications in either paper or electronic format.
  • Knowledge of configuration management and ECC to support updating and maintaining records of Environmental Remediation activities.
  • Ability to think logically through complex problems.
  • Ability to work under pressure, conflicting priorities, and regulatory requirements.
  • Supervisory, team building, and communication skills.
  • A Class G license held in good standing will be required.
  • Understanding of the IWCP (Integrated Work Control Process).
  • Knowledge of configuration management and Engineering Change Control (ECC) to support updating and maintaining records of Environmental Remediation activities.
  • Working knowledge and ability to apply the applicable codes associated with decommissioning a nuclear site and buildings.
  • Understanding of the CNSC regulations and how they apply to the CNL D&ER activities.
  • Familiarity with the specific safety codes applied to the D&ER processes.
  • Knowledge and application of radiation protection principles, measurements, and contamination control. A minimum of Group III certification is required.
  • Working knowledge of Waste Management principles and volume reduction methodologies.
  • Working knowledge of the document process including project documents and engineering documents.
  • Understanding of the National Building Code, National Fire Code, and company program manuals and how they apply to decommissioning.
  • Remain current with D&ER activities around the world.
  • Knowledge of CNL's practices, procedures, and organization.
  • Knowledge of CNL's compliance programs including the supporting documentation to demonstrate compliance.

Security clearance eligibility required:

Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat's "Standard on Security Screening" and the "Policy on Government Security."

Working Conditions :

4 day work week! (10 hours shift)
