The Wastewater Operator lll is responsible for the operation of the Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) in accordance with Ministry of Environment regulations and municipal standards and fills the role of Lead Operator for their shift. In the absence of supervisory personnel, the Operator lll will be solely responsible for the WWTP, including planning, assigning, directing the work of Level l and ll Operators. This position may be required to act in an on-call capacity.
Qualified candidates possess a grade 12 diploma or equivalent, courses in wastewater treatment, electrical/mechanical technology, and is a graduate of a post-secondary Wastewater Treatment Technician program with a minimum of 4 years related experience in wastewater treatment plant with progressively responsible experience. Qualified candidates also possess valid EOCP Wastewater Operator lll certification, and a willingness to undertake additional training and progress toward Level IV certification. Qualified candidates possess sound knowledge of relevant primary, secondary, and tertiary treatment processes, including enhanced biological nutrient removal, as well as SCADA programming and knowledge of the methods, practices, tools, materials, and equipment used in the maintenance and operation of a wastewater treatment plant. Qualified candidates possess the ability to read and interpret drawings; knowledge of safety regulations and occupational hazards related to the work; proven success in training/developing of staff and the ability to plan, assign, and review the work of operators with efficiency in respect to time, equipment, and materials; and must be physically able to perform moderate to heavy indoor and outdoor work in all weather conditions.
A valid EOCP Wastewater Operator lll certification and a valid BC Class 5 Driver’s license with satisfactory drivers abstract are requirements of the position. The successful applicant demonstrates effective communication skills and a commitment to promoting a diverse and inclusive workplace and will maintain effective working relationships contributing to a positive work environment.
This position offers 76.5 hours bi-weekly at a rate of $45.50 per hour. Employees in the Wastewater department shall normally work a schedule consisting of 8 days of work in a fourteen-day period. Each day of work shall be 9.5 hours exclusive of a one-half (1/2) hour lunch period.
