Full Time Contract

2 Positions
Regular Full Time: 35 hours Monday – Friday
Bargaining unit position
$20.77 Hourly - $37,795.31 Annually


We are an essential service, and the incumbent will be required to be at the office and in the community. Personal protective equipment and COVID-19 protocols are in place as per Public Health guidelines.
This position reports to the Manager, Building Services, and will be responsible, at specified properties, for cleaning, janitorial, grounds, snow removal, refuse removal and light maintenance services.

Responsibilities:
  • Daily and cyclical cleaning of lobbies, corridors, stairwells, site offices, public washrooms, elevator cabs, meeting and common rooms, mechanical and storage rooms, caretakers closets, garages, etc.
  • Ensuring that the quality and timeliness of assigned work meets the required service standards and guidelines;
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationship with Mainstay Housing staff, tenants, member agencies and/or contractors;
  • Assisting the Manager of Building Services in the identification and resolution of site specific issues;
  • Maintain an inventory of cleaning supplies and inform supervisor when stock needs to be re-ordered;
  • Keep cleaning equipment in working order and report repairs as required;
  • Clear snow and ice from parking areas, roadways, walkways, stairwells and entryways as required. Sand/salt these areas as required. Maintain grounds including litter removal;
  • Post entry notices and provide access for appropriate trades people, government inspectors and representatives to common areas and units;
  • Check fire-monitoring panel daily and perform monthly fire test. Perform weekly generator test;
  • Perform appropriate entries in fire logs and caretaker logs. Participate in all emergency procedures and drills;
  • You may be assigned a regular building portfolio or be assigned to rotating coverage for staff absences at various sites.

Qualifications:
  • At least two years’ experience in all aspects of professional cleaning and light repairs;
  • Knowledge of cleaning products and their appropriate application;
  • Experience operating cleaning machinery such as buffers, steam cleaners, power washing machinery, wet and dry vacuums, floor strippers, etc.;
  • Experience in lock changes and repairs;
  • Ability to operate snow blowers and garbage machinery;
  • Experience in light plumbing and electrical repairs including replacing washers, removing blockages to sinks and toilets, repairs to electrical fixtures and outlets;
  • Ability to perform repairs due to wear and tear and vandalism;
  • Sensitivity to working with tenants of supportive housing;
  • Asset: Driver’s license and a vehicle.

Some building environments are not smoke-free and most do not have elevators.
Regular hours of employment are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday.
