Brown Bagging for Calgary’s Kids (BB4CK) is a mission-focused grassroots organization, working to build and strengthen communities that ensure every child has enough to eat at school. Our team is small, working together in our areas of strength to ensure we can have broad impact in our community.
Brown Bagging for Calgary’s Kids has increased the number of hungry kids fed daily through its programs by almost 70% since 2015. To accomplish this increased impact, BB4CK has broadened its program delivery through community partnerships and a focus on encouraging and supporting people in Calgary to act in meaningful ways to feed kids. Today, BB4CK continues to grow and transition in order to achieve our goal of no hungry kids. Job Title: Kitchen Volunteer Engagement Coordinator
Team: Active member of K-12 Programs, led by the K-12 Programs Team Lead
Lead: Kitchen & Volunteer Engagement Specialist
Hours & Days of Work: 40 hours/week, typically between 6:30am and 2:30pm
Start Date: As soon as possible
Overview of the Kitchen & Volunteer Coordinator Role
Our BB4CK kitchen continues to grow to ensure all kids are fed in our community. While our numbers vary, it’s not uncommon for our kitchen to prepare and deliver over 3,200 lunches on a school day. This person will be a leader with a passion for engaging others (especially volunteers!), have keen organizational skills and the ability to multi-task and pivot in a busy and changing environment. Reporting to the Kitchen and Volunteer Engagement Specialist, the Kitchen Volunteer Engagement Coordinator will work collaboratively to support BB4CK’s operations and volunteers.
Key Responsibilities
Whole Organization:
· Be responsible for own health and wellness, personally and professionally, and take ownership to ensure you are able to perform this role as needed
· Contribute wholeheartedly to BB4CK’s vision and mission
· Work effectively on tasks assigned within the context of BB4CK values and culture
Daily Kitchen Operations:
· Ensure health and safety of the kitchen: direct volunteers on cleaning, food safety practices and kitchen efficiencies
· Inventory management: train volunteers to receive delivery orders, make note of stock changes and needs for upcoming orders; manage delivery orders and multiple suppliers
· Work within and maintain all standards as set forward by AHS and work collaboratively with inspectors as needed
· Collaborate with the Programming Systems coordinator to identify needs and opportunities for ongoing Kitchen Operating System (KOS) development
Daily Volunteer Program Operations:
· Welcome, onboard, engage, build relationships and train new and regular volunteers
· Support and engage volunteer groups by answering questions, story telling, supervising sandwich tables or supporting a baking group/prep group
· Recruitment and Onboarding; support volunteer orientation sessions, first day of training, and assist with database questions
· Collaborate with team members to fill gaps in volunteer schedule, and identify needs for new roles or opportunities within the BB4CK Volunteer Program
Weekly Kitchen Programs:
· Co-create and implement volunteer programs and opportunities; baking groups, prep sessions, special events, etc.
· Host Experience Based Learning groups (eg. Students, clubs, teams) where youth volunteers bake, help with food prep, and learn more about BB4CK
· Co-create and engage in weekly and quarterly volunteer engagement activities

Qualifications:
· Experience that demonstrates an ability to work with & lead volunteers
· Experience in a kitchen environment and/or food safe certification an asset
· Expertise in nutrition an asset
· Experience managing stock/inventory an asset
· Understanding of food insecurity an asset
· “Can do” attitude, and collaborative work approach
· This position is based in a commercial kitchen environment and involves standing for extended periods, lifting, and working with kitchen equipment
BB4CK offers a competitive total compensation approach to support the physical, psychological, cultural and financial wellbeing of our people. Base salary is calculated at the 50th percentile of market value with additional benefits totaling over $15,000.
