Intent of the process

There are positions immediately available in Oromocto, NB and Borden, ON.

A pool of partially or essentially qualified candidates may be established through this process and may be used to staff identical or similar positions at the Department of National Defence.

  • EDUCATION -

A secondary school diploma or employer-approved alternatives.

NOTE: The employer-approved alternatives to a secondary school diploma are:

A satisfactory score on the Public Service Commission test approved as an alternative to a secondary school diploma; or

An acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

Degree equivalency

  • OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATIONS -

Weapons Technician:

Primary Leadership Qualification (PLQ) or equivalent

Weapons Technician Trade Certificate to Development Period 2 (DP2) (known as QL5) or higher

Automotive Technician:

Possession of a valid Provincial or Interprovincial Heavy Equipment Repair Certificate; or possession of a valid Truck and Transport Repair Certificate or accepted equivalent in the respective province of employment.

Materials Technician:

Primary Leadership Qualification (PLQ) or equivalent

Materials Technician Trade Certificate to Development Period 2 (DP2) (known as QL5) or higher

  • EXPERIENCE -

Weapons Technician

Experience with the inspection, examination and repair of military weapons and equipment including components related to Light Armored Vehicles, Leopard tanks, Artillery Howitzers and small arms.

Automotive Technician:

Experience working with first, second and third line level repair in an Automotive or Heavy Equipment repair environment.

(This may include inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, replacing, rebuilding, or disassembling any part, component, or sub-component of the equipment or vehicle.)

Materials Technician:

Experience working as a Materials Technician

The following will be applied / assessed at a later date (essential for the job)

Various language requirements

English Essential

  • ASSETS -

Experience delivering training sessions

Experience supervising students or employees

Experience working as an instructor in a trade school, community college or military technical trade school.

Completion of Hazardous Material (HAZMAT) training

Completion of Workplace Hazardous Material Information Systems (WHMIS) training

First Aid and CPR Certification

Experience working with or teaching any of the following:

Quality Control/Out Inspection

Small engine repair

Marine Equipment

Automotive air conditioning systems

Busses/Highway Cruisers

Materials handling equipment

Special purpose equipment (ie Fire and Line Trucks)

Heavy Equipment Hydraulics

Diesel Engine Equipment

Experience following maintenance procedures for any of the following:

Standard Military Pattern vehicles (SMP)

Tracked and Wheeled Light Armoured Vehicles (LAV)

Militarized Heavy Equipment

Leopard Main Battle Tanks (MBT)

Completion of advanced training related to the Materials Technician Trade

Completion of advanced training related to the Weapons Technician Trade

Experience preparing weapons for storage

Experience providing support on a weapons range

Experience with using an engraving machine

  • OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS -

Willingness and ability to work evenings, weekends and overtime as required

Willingness and ability to work in adverse conditions

Willingness and ability to travel as required

Ability to lift 50kg or more

Ability to obtain and maintain a DND 404 Drivers Permit

(Depending on the position to be staffed, one or more Operational Requirement may be invoked as a Condition of Employment.)

Conditions of employment

Reliability or Secret Security Clearance

Possession of a Driver's License valid within the province of employment

Willingness and ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when required
