Who we are: Brown Bagging for Calgary’s Kids (BB4CK) is a mission-focused grassroots organization, working to build and strengthen communities that ensure every child has enough to eat at school. Our team is small, working together in our areas of strength to ensure we can have broad impact in our community.
Brown Bagging for Calgary’s Kids has increased the number of hungry kids fed daily through its programs by almost 70% since 2015. To accomplish this increased impact, BB4CK has broadened its program delivery through community partnerships and a focus on encouraging and supporting people in Calgary to act in meaningful ways to feed kids. Today, BB4CK continues to grow and transition in order to achieve our goal of no hungry kids. This is an exciting and challenging time in our organizational life, as we continue to meet the growing need in our community, while also focusing our efforts on strengthening our systems and processes to support our growing organization.

The Family Engagement Coordinator will collaborate with the Family Engagement and Evaluation Lead to design, develop and deliver a new and exciting participatory and incomebased program at BB4CK. They will also steward, facilitate, and coordinate BB4CK’s Peer Advisory Committee. The main objective of this role is to support and build trust with families who participate in BB4CK’s programming by supporting their diverse needs and bringing them together for connection and dialogue. The Family Engagement Coordinator will foster an inclusive environment, create opportunities for families to engage, advocate with and for families and connect in a meaningful, dignified, and participatory way. The Family Engagement Coordinator intentionally listens, integrates, celebrates and champions family voices internally and externally.
The role of the Family Engagement Coordinator will be responsible for the following:
Whole Organization:

Be responsible for own health and wellness, personally and professionally, and take ownership to ensure you are able to perform this role as needed
Contribute wholeheartedly to BB4CK’s vision and mission
Working effectively on tasks assigned within the context of BB4CK values and culture
Any duties not listed below that may be required to ensure the success of the team

This role and what you will do:

Working closely with the Family Engagement and Evaluation Lead to support the development, delivery and facilitation of an income-based, participatory program working closely with families experiencing food insecurity
Connect, build rapport, advocate for, and establish trust with families seeking BB4CK support
Stewards, enhances, facilitates, and coordinates community-facing initiatives, specifically BB4CK’s Peer Advisory Committee
Organize, plan and facilitate community conversations and focus groups
Assess areas of need, provide information, and connect families to programs, services and resources within BB4CK or the community
Cultivate and foster relationships in sector and across diverse communities to identify opportunities/resources for BB4CK families in the areas of food, housing, education, employment, financial capability, health/mental health, etc.
Work closely with the Data and Evaluation Coordinator to support the interpretation of data and findings
Performing administrative duties as needed

Qualifications:

Bachelor of Social Work with at least 3-years related experience in community-based services. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Demonstrated experience with Community Development values & practices.
Knowledge and experience in Food Security and/or poverty reduction is and asset
Exemplary group facilitation and engagement skills.
Demonstrated experience working with diverse communities and supporting programs
Well-versed in anti-oppressive, trauma-informed, and participatory approaches
Demonstrated experience working with equity deserving populations
Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools (Outlook, SharePoint, word, excel, TEAMS)

Hours: 40 hours/week, typically Monday –Friday. Work may include evenings and weekends, as defined by the initiatives/projects designed for family/client connection
BB4CK offers a competitive total compensation approach including people centered benefits to support the physical, psychological, cultural and financial wellbeing of our people. Base salary is calculated at the 50th percentile of market value.
