Emterra operates three of the\nlarger Metro Vancouver Recycling and Waste Centres that are located throughout\nthe Lower Mainland. These facilities receive\nlarge volumes of recyclables and waste that are consolidated and shipped to\nvarious destinations in western North America In addition, each facility\ncontains comprehensive recycling depots that divert materials away from\ndisposal and into the green economy. <\/span><\/p>

Emterra has an opening for a\nSupervisor at its Central Surrey facility located on 154th Street. This is an exciting opportunity for an\nindividual who has a passion for environmental issues, and also likes to\ninteract with the public (our customers). <\/span>The successful individual will provide\nleadership support to operations. This includes ensuring that the receiving and\nshipping of recyclable materials and waste is performed in a safe and efficient\nmanner. This involves managing and organizing the facilities key resources: our\npeople and equipment. This position is\nkey to the success of the organization. It is expected that the successful\nindividual follows management's guidance and direction and sets daily\nactivities, priorities and objectives for the site as well as maintains\neffective working relations with staff, other supervisors, and members of the\ngeneral public in order to meet objectives and resolve issues on a timely\nbasis.<\/p>

The facilities are open 363 days\nper year. Applicants must be willing and able to work shifts which are four on\nand four off. The number of employees per crew, in which the Supervisor is\nresponsible, can vary from 10 to 14, depending on the site and degree of\nactivity.<\/span><\/p>

\nWhat will you do?<\/b><\/span><\/p>

\n

  • Supervise, co-ordinate and\n schedule the activities of staff, which includes weigh masters, equipment\n operators, recycling attendants and general labourers.<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Under the direction of the\n Site Manager, ensure that production meets productivity goals in a safe\n manner;<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Provide coaching to\n employees and progressive corrective discipline when necessary.<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Provide customers with a\n great service experience at the facility;<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Enforce waste disposal bans\n and regulations set by the government;<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Coordinate with the\n maintenance team to ensure preventative maintenance is performed on\n schedule and downtime is minimized;<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Work actively with scale and\n shipping personnel to coordinate material flowing in and out of the\n facility;<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Ensure good housekeeping and\n a safe, well organized facility;<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Prepare production and other\n reports;<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Assist in training\n personnel;<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Perform other duties as\n assigned.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>

What will you bring?<\/b>

  • 2-3 years of experience in a supervisory role in a logistics, manufacturing or processing environment is preferred;<\/li>
  • Fluency in English and\n ability to communicate well with members of the public;<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Professionalism combined\n with leadership qualities;

<\/li>\n

  • Must be proactive and willing to learn; and<\/li>
  • Demonstrated conflict resolution skills.<\/li>
  • An interest in cultivating a\n positive work environment;<\/span><\/li>
  • A willingness and enthusiasm in working within the green economy;<\/li>\n
  • Ability and willingness to\n work shift work, weekends and holidays (four and four off rotation);<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Experience in the waste\n management and recycling industry is preferred, but is not necessary; <\/li><\/ul>
