Summer Camp Counsellor

Title: Summer Camp Counsellor
Reports to: Program and Volunteer Coordinator
Location: 7150 Montrose Rd, Niagara Falls, ON
Hours: 35-40 hrs per week, Mon to Fri
Wage: $18 per hour
Duration: 8 week contract (June 24th to August 16th 2024), including 1 full week of training
Reporting to the Program and Volunteer Coordinator, Camp Counsellors are responsible for working 1:1 or 1:2 with a variety of children, youth and adults with autism in our Niagara Summer Camp. The Camp Counsellors are responsible for ensuring safe, quality and developmentally appropriate programming for program participants of all ages, communicating and reporting to parents and caregivers on a regular basis. This is a seasonal contract, working full time Monday-Friday from June 24, 2024-August 16, 2024
Key Responsibilities:
•Ensures that all campers in their care are having a fun, safe and rewarding camp experience
•Personal care, including toileting, changing, and feeding, may be required
•Customize and adapt activities throughout the day to individual camper needs
•Ensures personal items belonging to the camper are accounted for
•Communicates and provides daily updates with the families of the children in their care
•Writes daily/weekly reports for the camper in his/her care
•Provide input for reports of serious incidents and occurrences as needed
•Rotates on a weekly basis between different campers and different rooms
•Ensures full compliance with Autism Ontario policies and procedures
•Ensures confidentiality of all camper records
•Assists with clean-up of camp at the end of the season including; storing supplies and equipment, identifying broken equipment and inventory count
•Other tasks as directed by the Camp Lead
•Responsible for the safety and security of staff and participants: Follow Code of Conduct and Operational Policies of Autism Ontario
•Follow all OCA standards
•Respond to first aid and emergency situations as required
•Ensure that program areas are kept safe, clean and organized
•Maintain health and safety standards at all times
•Complete incident report forms when necessary
•Follow CPI Non-Violent Crisis Intervention and Safety Care guidelines
