The Department of Labour, Consumer Protection and Government Services is seeking a Deputy Chief Power Engineer to join their team.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Must have and maintain a valid Class 5 Full Driver's Licence.
  • Must be physically capable of performing the required duties of this position such as medium/heavy lifting, climbing ladder/stairs, walking, crouching and kneeling, wearing all PPE required and must be able to work in a restricted and/or confined space.
  • Must possess and maintain a satisfactory Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search, Adult Abuse Regisrty Check and Child Abuse Registry Check. Additional enhanced internal security checks may be required.
  • Must have a valid Manitoba 3rd Class Power Engineering Certificate.
  • Must be able to work, shift work including overtime, weekends and stat holidays.

Qualifications:

Essential:

  • Experience operating and working as a Shift Power Engineer in a High Pressure Steam Plant. A combination of education and experience working in a power plant may be considered.
  • Experience operating and maintaining a high pressure steam plant, and the mechanical systems found in a high pressure steam plant.
  • Experience with HVAC, life safety systems, building control systems and maintenance management practices.
  • Experience with operating Building Automation Systems such as a DDC system and conducting preventative maintenance.
  • Knowledge of Workplace Safety and Health regulations, safe work practices, and safety programs.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Experience testing and recording of readings for a variety of equipment such as but not limited to: boilers, chillers, diesel generators etc.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Strong organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize workloads and manage deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate and build strong working relationships in a team environment, with other staff and with the public.
  • Effective verbal communication Skills.
  • Effective written communication skills.
  • Experience using SAP or similar software.

Desired:

  • Knowledge of safety and alarm systems - Fire Alarm Systems.
  • Project Management familiarity would also be an asset.

Duties:

Reporting to the Chief Power Engineer, the Deputy Chief Engineer will assist the Chief Engineer with Managing the operation of Selkirk Mental Health Centre Powerhouse Operations, including Human Resource, budget, capital assets and maintenance management to meet the needs of the client program(s). The incumbent will assume the duties of the Chief Engineer, Shift Engineer or Maintenance Relief Engineer as needed and is responsible for the operation and maintenance of a Second Class powerhouse and related mechanical systems. The employee is directly responsible to the Chief Power Engineer.
