An opportunity to play your part: As a Cloud and FinOps Engineer, your primary purpose is to drive insight, innovation and best practice for our financial operations in the cloud. Operating as a trusted advisor and liaison, you demonstrate exceptional proficiency in analysing, optimising, and implementing cost-saving measures, while effectively managing risks, operations, and performance across diverse cloud services. Your pivotal role involves advocating for cutting-edge cloud governance and cost optimisation practices, while ensuring that solution designs align meticulously with cost and governance considerations. Drawing upon your expertise in both cloud and data engineering, you enhance transparency through meticulous forecasting and cost reporting, complemented by the implementation of innovative solutions that proactively identify and eliminate cost wastage.

The day to day

• Work closely with the Head of Cloud Governance to take charge of the governance strategy and execution for Centrica's Cloud computing.
• Identify potential risks and vulnerabilities within the cloud environment, proactively devising and implementing risk mitigation measures to safeguard business operations.
• Foster strong relationships with cloud service providers, effectively managing contracts, SLAs / KPIs, and ensuring compliance with service expectations.
• Collaborate with stakeholders and internal teams to establish well-defined Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
• Regular assessment and identify the maturity of our cloud platforms, providing meaningful insight to our stakeholders to help them boost performance, scalability, reliability and cost control.
• Work closely with Enterprise and Cloud Architecture to assist with the evaluation of our cloud engineering and management tools.
• Establish comprehensive cloud training programs to empower teams across Centrica with the necessary skills to leverage cloud technologies effectively.
• Shadow the FinOps team to actively monitor and analyse cloud expenditures.
• Ensure strict adherence to established cloud standards, principles, and best practices, promoting a consistent and secure cloud computing environment.
• Develop and enforce governance policies, ensuring cloud investments comply with regulatory requirements and internal controls.
• With support from our suppliers and stakeholders arrange regular assessments of cloud platform maturity, recommending improvements and enhancements to elevate operational efficiency.
• Collaborate and ensure we have a repository to evaluate and prioritise cloud investments, considering governance, compliance, and maturity aspects, to maximize returns and alignment with business goals.
