Financial Planner

How does the role impact the organization?

The Financial Planner is responsible for providing financial planning services to Raymond James' wealthiest clients (over $1M in investable assets) in collaboration with their Financial Advisors. The ideal candidate is a career Financial Planner with ample experience understanding the needs of business owners and high net worth individuals and illustrating plans for these clients using NaviPlan. A great working knowledge of advanced financial and tax planning concepts is a must.

What will your role be responsible for?

  • Prepare, understand and communicate financial plans to clients with complex financial situations, including conducting client plan presentations on a case by case basis;
  • Work directly with clients and collect all relevant information, often in face-to-face meetings or calls,
  • Provide ongoing, professional financial and tax planning advice on planning strategies to Financial Advisors;
  • Review written pieces, blogs, newsletters and slide presentations prepared by advisory teams with a goal to assist the compliance department in evaluating the content for accuracy;
  • Develop professional relationships with local external experts (i.e. professional accountants, lawyers etc.) to provide comprehensive service on complex planning matters;
  • Prepare and present internal and external workshops and seminars on various current topics relating to financial planning;
  • Write articles for internally and externally directed publications, related updates, and maintenance of the Advisor web resource library;
  • Maintain financial planning professional practice standards including training, development and codes of conduct; and
  • Update a database of clients currently going through the financial planning process and manage such process from beginning to end.

What do we expect from you?

To qualify for this opportunity you possess:

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of

  • Financial planning process including investments, asset protection, retirement, estate planning, cash management and taxation issues at technical level and the ability to execute it; and
  • NaviPlan or similar planning application at an expert level.

Skill in

  • Microsoft Office (particularly Excel) with a willingness and ability to learn new applications;
  • Customer-service and interpersonal communication; and
  • Problem solving at an advanced level.

Ability to

  • Work within deadlines in a high-volume, pressure oriented environment;
  • Analyze scenarios in detail and suggest alternate solutions,
  • Prioritize and manage multiple deadlines and tasks;
  • Exercise tact and discretion, as well as handle confidential information; and
  • Pay attention to detail.

Educational/Previous Experience Requirements

  • An undergraduate degree in Commerce or a related field is an asset;
  • Minimum of five years of experience in the Investment Brokerage or Financial Services industry;
  • At least five (5) years of dedicated financial planning experience subsequent to obtaining the CFP or Financial Planner (F.Pl) designation; and
  • Experience with Dataphile is an asset;

Salary Range: BC (based on Education, Work Experience, etc) $90,000-120,000 in addition to competitive performance bonuses/incentives.
