We are on the hunt for a Mechanical Systems Specialist. The purpose of this position is to provide oversight as a Mechanical System Specialist for assigned Mechanical Systems and Distribution (ex. HVAC, Water, Steam, Compressed Air, Natural Gas & Propane, Elevators, Cranes, etc.) at CRL. This position is needed to ensure that routine operation, scheduled preventive maintenance and strategic upgrades are planned and executed as part of a defined program. Moreover, representing the branch as a system owner operator, ensuring safe and efficient operation of these systems.

Executing the position's mandate will slow the deterioration of the assigned systems and distribution and ensure that portions of the systems are replaced in a strategic manner prior to running to failure, and in anticipation of requirements for future energy supply and distribution at CRL.

In the beginning, this position will reduce the volume of emergent work due to breakdowns, and the operational cost to replace prematurely worn-out equipment. As maintenance and strategic upgrades stabilize the condition of our assets, CNL will experience reduction of energy use, and more dependable Mechanical Systems.

What will you be doing !

  • Provide oversite of the day to day operation of assigned systems (steam, condensate, compressed air, natural gas, and others). Responds to emergent conditions on assigned systems and provides oversight and direction to ensure repairs are completed in compliance to applicable codes and standards and in a safe and efficient manner.
  • When applicable, prepares, reviews, and approves internal work packages or scopes of work (SOW) for execution by external contractors. Provides both project management and portfolio management functions across assigned systems. Works closely Suppliers, Procurement and Construction Supervisors to ensure repairs and projects are delivered successfully and providing value to stakeholders.
  • Supports the development of asset management plans and preventive maintenance plans by CRL on assigned systems. Ensures plans are right sized and providing value to stakeholders.
  • Continuously assesses the condition of assigned to ensure work is prioritized and delivering value to stakeholders. Provides oversight of utility shutdowns to ensure essential work is prioritized, scheduled, and completed by Maintenance or external contractors.
  • Interacts with customers, co-workers, and management to clearly communicate the status of the plant and requirements for its operation, maintenance and strategic replacement.

What we are looking for :

Education:

Graduation from a recognized trade or technology (or equivalent) with 5-10 years of experience in the areas of operations and/or maintenance.

Experience:

  • Project Management (PMI).
  • CRL's internal Engineering Change Control (ECC, RREC, IEER) process.
  • CRL's internal process to contracting work to external service providers.
  • Central heating plants (steam, hydronic).
  • Facility Mechanical Systems: HVAC, Elevators, Cranes, Water, Hydronic
  • Distribution of utilities: steam, condensate, water, sewer, compressed air, natural gas, propane.
  • Installation of utilities: steam, condensate, water, sewer, compressed air, natural gas, propane.
  • Provide oversight of field work execution of work packages for internal and external trades.
  • Ability to work with unionized and non-unionized staff, jurisdictional representatives.
  • CRL internal maintenance processes (planning, review, approval).
  • External contracting of maintenance activities on mechanical infrastructure systems (CNL Contractor Representative training an asset).
  • Review & comment of engineered drawings at CRL.
  • CRL Drilling, Digging, and Coring (DDC&Cs) process.

Security Requirements:

Security clearance eligibility required: Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom.
