Acuren Wind Canada is currently recruiting for a Technical Support Specialist for our Field Service Division. This position will provide Technical Support to Field Services Team and Data Analytics Team. The Technical Support Specialist will include both in-field and remote support.
Position Details:
- Position will support multiple projects across Canada and may require up to 50% travel and can be for extended periods (up to 6 weeks and sometimes on short notice).
- Work location will be field and office/remote work from home as required.
- Job hours will be dependent on the work scope being supported and hours may vary depend on client/project requirements.
- Requires pro-active research in technical expertise on innovations and trends in wind energy and composite industry, supported by TSG Leader.
- Developing repair plans for damaged blades, including selecting appropriate repair methods, materials, and tools. Coordinating with field technicians and other staff to ensure repairs are carried out effectively and safely.
- Providing on-site or remote technical support to field technicians during the repair and maintenance processes. This includes troubleshooting and resolving any issues that arise.
- Ensuring that all repair work meets quality standards and is compliant with industry regulations and company policies.
- Identifying opportunities for improving repair techniques, processes, and equipment to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
- Conducting or facilitating training sessions for field technicians on new repair techniques, safety protocols, and best practices.
Responsibilities:
- Provide disposition of defect categorization and safe to operate guidance on reported inspection findings.
- Review and assessment of stage wise repair documentation (followers and images) for compliance with the written work instruction requirements and quality standards as set by the company and / or customer.
- Timely response to field and in-house support requests, and timely escalation of requests where required.
- Provide composite expertise in the inspection and repair of wind turbine blades.
- Effective communication with Project Managers / Field Technicians / Inspectors / Analysts or other (as required) throughout the duration of the project.
- Provide remote and in-field Field Technician/Inspector training on Work Instructions.
- As required, assist in assessment of Field Technician / Inspectors with respect to Work Instruction requirements.
- Provide new-hire field technician training on composites inspections and repair.
- Support Root Cause Analysis (RCA) Projects for rotor blade damages and failures.
- Perform Technical and Repair Reporting.
- Support Non-conformance report generation and review when required.
- Support material sourcing requirements for repair projects, inclusive of Bills of Materials and maintain material traceability per project.
- Perform materials qualifications as required.
- Assist with the development of Work Instructions, Standard Forms and other documentation relevant to the work scope by following CWC document management system.
- Ensure compliance with all HS&E requirements for the work being performed.
- Provide feedback on potential process improvements to Engineering requirements.
- Liaise with customers as a representative of the Company to ensure satisfaction and Company performance.
- Support Company Continuous Improvement Practices.
- Other duties as assigned from time to time.
The position is considered physically demanding and applicants must be able to demonstrate and maintain the ability to:
- Walk over rough/slippery terrain as experienced on heavy construction sites
- working at significant heights
- Climb a 100m/330ft vertical ladder, multiple times per day, with up to 15kgs/30lbs of additional weight.
- Bend, kneel, climb and squat with full range of motion and for prolonged periods of time
- Demonstrate effective hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills
- Enter and work in enclosed areas for upwards of 4 hours at a time
- Lift up to 25kgs/50lbs unassisted (on occasion up to 35kgs/75lbs)
- Operate hand tools
- Stand for prolonged periods of time
- Work around and with composite materials
- Work in inclement weather conditions
Requirements:
- Grade 12 education. Relevant post-secondary degree/diploma in Engineering will be considered an asset.
- 1 year of experience of blade repair and inspection specifically working with composites
- Experience in a Quality Assurance or Inspection role
- Strong math and computer skills, including MS Office programs
- The ability to effectively communicate in English, both verbally and in writing. Preference will be given to candidates who are able to communicate in French.
- A valid Class G driver's license, or an equivalent
- Possession of or the ability to obtain a valid passport
- Requires a mindset towards continuous improvement and continuous learning in all aspects of the job.
